sorry but do you know anything about fictives in a system? do u know if like one can find out they’re a fictive of a character that hasn’t been around as long in official media as the alter itself has been around in the system-….

I am compelled to point out that ‘system’ is currently a debated term, as to whether or not it is acceptable to use unless you are a DID/OSDD-1 sufferer.

If you are a DID/OSDD-1 sufferer I have read that it is impossible to have an alter who did not develop during childhood, and thus it is impossible to have an alter who is a character from media that did not exist when you were a child. Additionally, fictional alters in DID/OSDD-1 systems are called fictional introjects, not fictives.

If you are a DID/OSDD-1 sufferer who has an alter who has recently begun to believe that they are a fictional character, that alter may however qualify as fictionkin. Fictionkin are people who discover through a mental or spiritual revelation that they are or were in some way mentally or spiritually a certain fictional character. However, fictionkin are not wholly and simply ‘that character’, they have their own identity as well. So if your alter is having their identity completely replaced by the identity of a fictional character they are not fictionkin, and may instead be experiencing some kind of identity absorption, of the type sometimes experienced with those who have BPD.

If you are NOT a DID/OSDD-1 sufferer, but rather any other kind of multiple or other person who experiences having headmates, then the answer is yes. It is totally possible for a headmate to realize that they are a fictional character without having known before, especially if the material they come from wasn’t created until after they were a headmate. This sometimes happens particularly with soulbonds, walk-ins and other externally originating headmates who may not initially remember where they came from.
