shifting meditation tips
i’m not an expert by any means, but i’ve seen lots of people on kin help blogs asking for tips on meditation for shifting. i can’t say i’m the absolute best at this myself, but i can try to give some tips (for both spiritual and psychological kin).
first off, you’re going to want to find a place that’s dark but not pitch black, with a comfortable place to lie down. i’ve tried sitting meditation for shifting and found that the weight on my legs distracts me from focusing. under a table or in a darkened room works well.
for me, meditation in absolute silence is difficult. there’s nothing nonverbal to focus on to keep your mind quiet. when i can, i try to meditate near a window open to the street outside, or if that is not possible, to listen to tibetan singing bowl sounds–nothing with lyrics and nothing too stimulating.
do you have phantom limbs? awesome! bring these into your focus. recognize any sensations you may feel in them. you don’t have phantom limbs? that’s okay too. feel the space where they would be, picturing them in as much detail as you can. there’s a point in relaxation where you can let go of your physical body’s sensations. once you can, do this, picturing yourself falling away from them.
after enough time has passed in a focused meditative state, i start to feel my entire body map shift to one of my theriotype–arms are longer, i have a muzzle, etc. this is what some have called a strong phantom shift (or astral shift, if you’re a spiritual therian) and for me, at least for a few minutes, i genuinely feel my entire body as if it were my theriotype. it’s an experience i want everyone to share with me.
i hope this helped somewhat! if you have anything to add, or any questions, feel free to ask them~
