Is there any way to stop phantom pain?

I find that positive visualization is the best way to deal with phantom pain or any other kinds of troublesome non-physical sensation.

For example, if your back is hurting, what I would do is get in a comfortable position (on my stomach in this case) and close my eyes. Then I would visualize someone massaging my back and pressing soothing sensations into it.

If you’re feeling burning sensations, close your eyes and envision pressing a cold cloth to the area, or dipping it in ice water.

The key to successful visualization is to completely rebuild the sensation in your mind, with as much detail as possible. If you’re using the cold cloth, include the coolness, and include the wetness, and the texture of the cloth, etc.
