Fiction kin is extremely unhealthy, not to mention disrespectful. When a person takes time and effort to bring life to a character, one whom may or may not have deep, personal ties to the creator, it’s extremely rude to take all that hard work and say “I AM THIS CHARACTER! I HAVE THEIR MEMORIES!” When no, you are not their character, you never will be. Also, what does “my canon” mean? CANON = what happens in the official publication. Not whatever the fuck happens in your crazy fucking head.
Fiction kin is extremely unhealthy,
Uh, source? [Citation Needed]. Are you a doctor? Have you discovered the link between being kin and cancer?
not to mention disrespectful.
To whom? By what measure?
When a person takes time and effort to bring life to a character, one whom may or may not have deep, personal ties to the creator, it’s extremely rude to take all that hard work
What about characters that are the creation of committees and only exist to sell products? Would you consider that rude too?
and say “I AM THIS CHARACTER! I HAVE THEIR MEMORIES!” When no, you are not their character, you never will be.
You’re flat out wrong, here, rudeanon, because people can and do have the memories of these characters, whether they are confabulations or ‘true’ memories, they are still real mental experiences. They ‘are’ the character as much as anyone can ever be.
Also, what does “my canon” mean? CANON = what happens in the official publication
You know exactly what ‘my canon’ means, anon. It means ‘the events of my source material as I experienced them’.
The term canon originated in biblical study and referred to the books that were accepted as ‘correct’ by the teachings of the church, as opposed to the ‘non-canonical’ materials which were contemporary materials with just as much weight and legitimacy in some cases, that were not accepted into church doctrine.
What was canon, as opposed to non-canon was in fact, decided by committee, not the people who wrote the material originally.
Not whatever the fuck happens in your crazy fucking head.
Hence the reason for the different term ‘my canon’ versus ‘the canon’, obviously, rudeanon.
And thanks for swearing at me and calling my crazy. I really appreciate it when people take the time to yell slurs at me, because it means that my inoffensive personal beliefs make them angry for no good reason.
