I think it’s cool how you treat people with weird kintypes with the same respect you’d treat anyone else. I’ve seen “elders” in the kin community talk about how they’d reject people whose kintypes were too “out there”, and I think that’s incredibly unfair. I mean, nobody HAS to accept anyone else, but… it’s just really hypocritical, you know? Even those “good” and “allowable” kintypes are batshit to people outside of the community.

Exactly, anon.
In my worldview, thanks to multiverse theory, there’s just as much likelyhood to remember that you’re Thomas the Tank Engine or Homer Simpson as there is to remember you’re Pheonix Wright, Legolas, or Cloud Strife.
What I respect is someone who knows themselves, and has taken time and effort to do so, and someone who is sincere in their belief. I honestly feel bad for people who have ‘out there’ kintypes that may not be respected.
And sorry, all you anti-kin reading this, I CAN tell the difference between someone who sincerely remembers being Donald Duck and someone who decided it’d be funny to claim to be Donald Duck on the internet.
