So a non-kin friend of mine recently told me that they think all otherkin are mentally ill for thinking that they are animals. What’s the best way to explain to her that kinity is a belief about your soul/mind and not about physically being an animal? I know you focus on fictionkin but this is a kin thing in general.

Some people won’t be convinced no matter what you say, anon. Which is unfortunate, but true. I suppose you could ask them if they believe…

On anon because no one knows I’m mentally ill. I wanted to thank you so much for the post where you talk about your experience being bipolar. I feel like we mentally ill fictonkin whose kin identities are completely separate from our illnesses are often forgotten or thrown under the bus, or our illnesses are used to discount and de-legitimize our kin-ness. Thank you again, it meant so much to hear.

Thank you for sharing, anon. ^^ Its hard to tell people that you’re mentally ill, and I did have a hard time sharing my struggle…

Why do you take it as a personal attack when other people explain their being otherkin as psychological? Like, you realize a person can think it’s psychological for them without invalidating your belief that it is spiritual for you, right? Like, not everyone’s experience comes from the same origin. Like, not everyone’s experience comes from the same origin. That’s right. Not everyone’s experience is from the same origin. Which makes it (when the origins…

I think the person that complained about the “are fictionkin crazy” article misunderstood the point you were trying to make. What I took from it is that you weren’t saying ‘kin can’t have mental illnesses — you were saying that BEING ‘KIN is not a mental illness, nor is it indicative of having one. You can be mentally ill and ‘kin. Being ‘kin does not make you mentally ill. Separate things.

Exactly my point, the two are entirely separate.
