What are fictionkin? Fictionkin; (noun): A person who discovers that they have in some way inherited the soul/spirit/complete mentality of a fictional character, and the…

hello! i’ve checked your faq but i’m so new and v. confused, so i thought i’d just ask. i understand what the term headmate is used for in regards to this community, but i am confused if its supposed to be completely different from what a person with dissociative identity disorder means when talking about their headmates, or if they mean the same and meant for people w DID but alters that are similar to fic characters? sometimes some say anyone can develop headmates but thats not how DID works?

First of all, just to clear things up, headmates have nothing to do with fictionkin or otherkin. Headmate as a term came about to describe…

is it strange/bad that, even though i was a character in a past life, in my current state i feel a deep connection with his father? as in – although i was that person, if i had to pick one who’s me now, i would probably pick his dad. i don’t have memories or anything as his dad – i just relate to him.

I don’t think its bad? After all, if you’re this character, then his father is your father. Its not unusual to feel a deep connection…

I’m considering creating a spin-off new blog from this one, specifically a soulbonding ask/informational blog. Considering this because of the volume of soulbonding asks I’ve…

A long time ago you touched on the topic of “fictional others” when an anon brought it up. What do you think of people who have multiple fictional others? I’ve found a friend who’s familiar with the concept and she has like, five. She IS polyamorous, but do you think that’s questionable? I’m not quite sure what I think yet. I’m still new to the concept, haha.

By fictional others, I gather that you mean romantic interactions with fictives/soulbonds/headmates. My personal feelings are that there is nothing wrong with having these relationships…

What is the criteria for something being a soulbond? I have people that constantly follow me around and I can see, but no one else can. My friends who are soulbonds think I’m a soulbond, but I don’t think I am because everyone seems to be either in the headspace or right next to me in the weird projected form that only I can interact with. I don’t think there’s a word for whats going on with me. It is a confusing mess.

Firstly, you would be a soulbonder, and the people who follow you around would be called soulbonds. As for what the criteria is: A soulbond…

You probably get a lot of asks so I understand if you don’t get around to answer this one but first I’d like to tell you that I really love your blog! It’s informative and you’re always polite and yeah… and then I’d like to ask you for advice. There’s this game I know since I was a really small child and for all my life since I first saw it I felt like it was home, just even when I hadn’t played it myself yet I often found myself thinkin “I want to go back there, I want to meet them again” P.1

p.2 like… I just feel so strongly about the whole word and the characters/people in it, I still cry from the overwhelming feelings once I…

whats the definition for -hearted? some say it means choosing to identify as [x] but others use it like having a synpath where it means just a strong connection or relating to it. i think it would be more useful to have it mean choosing to id, since synpath works fine for the other definition

I agree with you, somewhat, but I’ll let others come forward and give their definitions of fiction-hearted vs synpath for you. I’m not the clearest…

Re: gender=/=kintypes, I realize this was directed largely at anti-kin, and so I don’t blame you for not mentioning it, but there are times when your kintypes can affect your gender. Especially if said kintype is a noncorporeal/alien one, or a fictotype with a gender different than yours. Just worth mentioning, no t that Im necessarily suggesting you add it to the post.

There absolutely are times when gender can be influenced by your kinself/kintypes. I would say part of the reason I’m a transman is probably my…

Hi um! I appreciate your kin ≠ gender post, but the line about gender being “visible at all times” really rubs me wrong. For example: a stranger would probably assume I’m a cis girl. I’m agender; it’s not visible. The statement just feels really exclusive of people who can’t (or don’t want to) present in a manner that ‘matches’ their gender. Am I misinterpreting it?? Thank you.

Sounds like I phrased it a little bit poorly! When I wrote ‘visible at all times’ what I meant was that people are evaluating and…

Hello, sorry if this is a bother, but could you talk about or direct me to anyone talking about “copinglink”? I think I understand what it means, but am not sure I quite get it. I did a Google search and a Tumblr search, but came up with 2 posts, which were both angry sounding posts and didn’t actually mention what copinglink was, just that it exists. :( I’m all for new terms to describe things, esp because “kin” has been twisted so much lately by others.

Copinglink is a very new term. I’m pretty sure it’s meant to replace copingkin? @inexplicablehanyou can probably explain better than I can.

The thing is, otherkin/fictionkin stuff keeps getting mixed up with mental health issues and sexuality, gender and identity politics, and it… really has nothing to…
