Sometimes I feel like I physically am a certain character. Like, I know I didn’t “physically shift” or anything like that.. I don’t really know how to describe it. It’s kind of like I feel phantom limbs and whenever I think of myself I think of that character. Usually when this happens I’m surprised whenever I look into a mirror/see my shadow/etc because it doesn’t match what I feel. Does this seem like an indicator of this character being a kintype to you? (Sorry if this is poorly worded!!)

That sounds like a “phantom shift” to me anon: http://therian.wikia.com/wiki/Therianthropic_Shifting_types It could very well be that this character is a kintype and that’s why you’re experiencing shifts…

I was the anon that sent that “atheists can believe god exists” ask a while back… and it just occurred to me that an angel-kin who was an atheist/rejected god’s divinity would technically be a devil. IDK if the original anon asking about being an angel-kin + atheist is still reading this, but if you’re here, it’s something to consider!

Interesting thoughts, anon! (and sorry it took me so long to get to your ask. Some things get buried in here -__- )

Since discovering I’m kin with these two characters, I’ve been using that cope with my mental illnesses but it’s making me doubt whether it’s real or not. It feels very real, but I don’t want to be a fake because I know copingkin is different. Do other mentally ill kin do this? Use their kin to cope after finding out they’re kin? Thanks.

Mentally ill and traumatized kin often use their knowledge of their kintypes to help them cope with their illness and stress, anon. Doing so does…

How ’bout that rude anon come off anon and attack our community publicly? How ’bout they defend their point instead of hide behind the safety of anonymity? I mean, going around putting mean asks in someone’s box, but not owning up to it? That’s just cowardly. Hey, @ rudeanon, you know who this person is, but they don’t know you. What makes you think anyone is going to believe what you have to say when you don’t even put a face/icon/image to it?

do you have any advice for confirming kintypes? there are two or three characters i get fairly strong kinfeels from, and i’m pretty sure i’m only one of them, since they’re a group of friends, but i don’t know which one. i have trouble being sure of these things without memories. thank you!! have a lovely day/night!!

kins-ly: Well you could try tarot (I know lots of people use those for confirming kintypes). But the best advice I can give you is…

Fiction kin is extremely unhealthy, not to mention disrespectful. When a person takes time and effort to bring life to a character, one whom may or may not have deep, personal ties to the creator, it’s extremely rude to take all that hard work and say “I AM THIS CHARACTER! I HAVE THEIR MEMORIES!” When no, you are not their character, you never will be. Also, what does “my canon” mean? CANON = what happens in the official publication. Not whatever the fuck happens in your crazy fucking head.

Fiction kin is extremely unhealthy,  Uh, source? [Citation Needed]. Are you a doctor? Have you discovered the link between being kin and cancer? not to…

I think I may be only fictionkin, but up until a little while ago I thought I was a therian as well. My best friend is a theriomythic, and also fictionkin, and I don’t know how to explain I think I’m not a therian anymore? I’m afraid he’ll think I’m mucking him around and not taking enough time to think about these things (when, in reality, I do, because this was my worst fear). How do I tell him?

If your friend is seriously therian, then he should applaud you for having the introspection and self-understanding necessary to know when you were wrong about…

Can I call myself otherkin without meditating? I know people always suggest that, but what are some other ways of introspection? Personally, I find it extremely difficult to meditate because my mind is always on and thinking, and trying to meditate and slowly push all the feelings out of my mind is very stressful for me.

You absolutely can call yourself otherkin without meditation. Meditation is just a tool that helps some people focus and understand their feelings and identities better.…

(In response to the anon that called you “unhelpful” and said that you were “damaging” certain identities/beliefs) You’ve actually helped me out a /lot/, honestly. I’ve sent in a few asks before and your responses are informal and something I look forward to reading. I’m a more confident individual, and I feel much better about my strange identity/experiences. Thank you!

I’m really glad to hear it, anon 🙂 This is the kind of thing that keeps me going!

I sort of have a problem? I think I’m otherkin, in addition to my fictionkin-ness. There’s these weird weights on my back and tailbone, and my mind keeps saying ‘don’t sit there, you’ll cramp your wings’, or I’ll involuntarily sit in a weird position so I don’t hurt my tail. I’m not sure, though.

It sounds like you have some phantom/astral limbs anon! They may or may not be related to a kintype. (sometimes limbs like these are related…

lizardywizard: To other people, human means having a body with a specific genetic structure. To me, human means having a self image that matches that…

You can be an atheist and believe that angels/god exist. Specifically, you can believe that the -entity- of ‘god’ exists, but not believe in the ‘divinity’ of that entity. Being atheist necessitates that you don’t believe in ‘higher powers’, but doesn’t explicitly mean that you don’t believe in spiritual entities. I could say YHWH is real, but not agree that he is [a] god. If I refuse the ‘godhood’ of all entities, this would still qualify as atheism.

Technically, you are absolutely right, anon.  Generally I use the term ‘atheist’ when what I mean is “someone who believes there is no magical or spiritual element…

So a non-kin friend of mine recently told me that they think all otherkin are mentally ill for thinking that they are animals. What’s the best way to explain to her that kinity is a belief about your soul/mind and not about physically being an animal? I know you focus on fictionkin but this is a kin thing in general.

Some people won’t be convinced no matter what you say, anon. Which is unfortunate, but true. I suppose you could ask them if they believe…
