I keep having nightmares about how my previous life ended and it’s terrifying how do I stop this

I wish I knew a better way to answer this, since its a serious problem that I’ve had over the years as well.

All I can give you unfortunately are a few tips to sleep better in general. No computer/phone/tv screen for 20 minutes before you go to bed. Don’t eat less than an hour and a half before bed. Make sure you’re sleeping at an angle where you can breath properly. Don’t sleep with a light shining in your face.

And definitely, definitely don’t read/watch/listen to/think about your source for like a few hours before bed.
