Hello! Recently, I discovered that I’m kin with a guy who was… Really bad. Like, bad enough that he murdered a lot of people and ruined a lot of lives. And recently, I also found a few people who identify as people I wronged horribly back then. I’m too scared to approach them as I don’t even know how to begin to ask for forgiveness (which is something I feel is necessary). Do you think they would hold it against me since I’m (literally) a different person now?

Hello, anon. I certainly understand how you feel as that describes my own ‘kintype’ to a T. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I haven’t had the luck to run into any of those wronged parties, so I can’t speak from experience in this life here.

I can speak from experience in my past life however, that you should do what you can to apologize and make amends. Some of the people may hold what you did against you and never forgive you, or not want to associate with you. However, others may understand, and you may find that some of the strongest friendships can grow from the ashes of pain and hurt.

Good luck, anon.
