The legitimate reasons why people feel it’s an issue to have kin outside your race is A) some white people have used their kintype’s race as an “I understand what X race goes through/I can’t be racist” card, B) because POC get little enough [cont.]

representation in media and then to see a white person claim that they literally ARE that character can be hurtful to someone who has been able to feel represented by that character and C) because some people use kin or similar concepts as a coping

mechanism and feel they have a degree of control over their relationship with their kintype and they see these people as being able to choose or not to “identify” with these characters, which is certainly true in some cases but inapplicable to others

who do not have control over this. as someone who is not the same race as their kintype i think deeming this problematic is a little ridiculous because my character was not only created by people of a variety of ethnicities, she was also functionally

I don’t think the last part of your message sent, anon, but I’ll address what I have.

A) I have seen people claim this, but I have never ever actually since anyone who was kin legitimately try to insert themselves into a discussion on race/disability that didn’t apply to them currently.

B) A character’s representation is in no way diminished by someone else being kin of them.

C)

People who have control over their ‘kin’ identities are copinglink, not kin. (Which still in my mind does not make people with copinglinks of a different race racist).

I absolutely agree that deeming people who identify with or are kin of characters outside their race as problematic is ridiculous.
